Billy Moore Days will take place in Historic Avondale October 26 – 29, with the return of the event’s favorite elements including the Billy Moore Days Parade and Carnival, and marks the 71st anniversary of Avondale’s incorporation.

Avondale’s Resident Appreciation Night/G.A.I.N Celebration at Billy Moore Days
Date: Friday October 21 – 5 to 8 p.m.
This celebration is a way for the City of Avondale to say ‘thank you’ to all of the residents who have chosen Avondale as home, and provides residents with a great opportunity to become acquainted with city services, programs and staff. This year’s Resident Appreciation Night will take place in Historic Avondale on Western Avenue, in conjunction with the return of a weekend long of festivities for Billy Moore Days.
Resident Appreciation Night will feature fun for the entire family to include interactive city display stations highlighting the myriad of programs and services offered by the city, meet and greet with Council Members, raffles, giveaways, stage entertainment and much more! City departments from Public Works and Fire/Medical, Police to Neighborhood & Family Services and more will host interactive, informational booths that will give everyone a new perspective on local government. In the spirit of Billy Moore Days, the departments will each have displays that share and showcase a western or historic theme. So come out, mosey on down to Historic Avondale and ask questions, provide feedback and learn more about the quality of life opportunities offered in Avondale.
Resident Appreciation Night will also highlight the Police Department’s annual G.A.I.N (Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods) celebration, which encourages neighborhoods throughout Avondale to hold activities such as block parties in an effort to spread the message of crime prevention. Come out and meet your Police Chief and officers, and enjoy a host of public safety demonstrations and activities. Get a close up look at police vehicles, tactical gear, learn about crime prevention and more.

Deconcini Park will come alive with carnival rides, games and snacks! A variety of rides will be available for all ages include Zipper, Spin out, Orient Express,Zero Gravity, Mini Jets, Train, Fireball, Merry go round and Gee Wizz!

Free kids activities give a flavor for the old west with panning for gold, Bow & Arrow Bulls Eye Quest, Rubber Band Gun Shootout and Rodeo Calf Roping. We’ll even have a branding station where your kids can receive free western themed face painting!
Dr. Buck’s Wild West Show:
Take a trip back in time to gun fights, roping, horsemenship and good old fashioned fun! Dr. Buck’s Wild West Show will include The Wild West Comedy Gun Fight and Stunt show, The Wizard of the West Mysterioso Magic show, True West Tales with old west Historian Cowboy Lee Anderson.

Little Buckaroo/Buckarette Contest
Let your kids show off their best western attire as they compete for the title of Little Buckaroo and Buckarette. Kids, ages 10 and under, are invited to come on stage in western get-up. Prizes and title will be awarded, and winners will get to ride in the Billy Moore Days Parade on a special float.
This contest will take place Friday, October 21 at 5:45 p.m. on the Main Stage located on Western and 6th Street. Entries must check in by 5:30 p.m. to participate in the contest. Trophies and prizes will be awarded to the winners. There will be one Buckaroo and one Buckarette winner for a grand prize award of a Party Rental Package (valued at $245) from A to Z Party & Event Rentals. Parents are strongly encouraged to register for the contest ahead of time, prior to the event.

Avondale Police Department K9 Demonstration
Friday, October 21, 6:30 – 7:00 pm, Serena’s Plaza
The Avondale K9 Unit is comprised of two K9 Handlers, two canines, a sergeant and several officers certified as canine decoys. K9 Handler Officer Tony Fernandez and his partner Ranger will be demonstrating some of the tactics used by K9 teams such as a suspect apprehension. K9 Handler Officer Samaniego will be assisting in the demonstration along with a decoy.

Have you been told more than once to use your “inside voice?” Anyone with hollering skills can participate in the first ever Billy Moore Days Yee Haw Hollering Contest. It’s easy to participate—simply step up on stage and give your best rendition of ‘YEE HAW’! The contest will take place Saturday, October 22 at 12pm at the Serena’s Plaza, located adjacent to Sam Garcia Library on Western and 6th Street. Entries must check in by 11:45 am to participate in the contest.

The City of Avondale’s History on Display
During the weekend event, visit the lobby of the Sam Garcia Western Avenue Library to learn about the history of our city. A display will be up that will showcase a historic timeline, pinpointing key features in Avondale’s history, as well as feature the legend of Billy Moore, Avondale’s founder. On Friday, October 21, from 5-8pm Three Rivers Historical Society will provide volunteers to staff the display and share tidbits about Avondale’s past.
Billy Moore Days Co-ed Softball Tournament
Saturday, October 22, Festival Fields Park
A co-ed ‘Wild West’ Softball Tournament for adults, will be hosted Saturday, October 22 at a Festival Fields Park located at 101 E. Lower Buckeye Road, in Avondale. Get your team together, and gear them up in western wear (there will be a prize for best team costume). Each inning will have a different crazy rule such as running bases backwards, lasso carry, hitting off a tee, etc. This is a day tournament with two games guaranteed.
